As a ministry of Grace Baptist Church, Grace Christian School is under the final authority of the congregation, composed of members in good standing of Grace Baptist church. For efficient functioning, Grace Baptist Church has authorized a committee, known as the Grace Christian School Committee, to oversee the school program and to bring recommendations to the church at the monthly business meetings concerning budget, staffing and other items determined to need church approval. This committee was established at a regular business meeting in August,1974. School Committee Responsibilities The School Committee sets school policy. Matters of policy can be brought to the committee by the Director as problems arise during the daily functioning of the school. The School Committee has oversight of the total school program. It is responsible for the total functioning of the school, although the day to day operations are the responsibility of the Director. The School Committee also has responsibility for the financial stability of the school program. It formulates a tentative budget for each school year, finalizes the budget at the beginning of the school year, and presents the budget to the church for approval. The School Committee interviews potential staff members and recommends those selected for church approval during church business meetings. The School Committee is the final reconciliation body when differences cannot be resolved at lower levels between staff members, between staff and parents, between staff and Principal or parents and Principal. The School Committee is responsible for planning for the development and expansion of the school ministry.
Don Jillson – Chairman (firstname.lastname@example.org) Mr. Jillson was the Director of Grace Christian School from 2002-2006, as well as the Grace Baptist Church Business Administrator from 1999–2004. He is a senior financial and project manager at the Department of Homeland Security. He has been a member of Grace Baptist Church since 1992 and a church Deacon since 2015.
Toby Byrd – Vice Chairman (email@example.com)Mr. Byrd has served off and on as the chairman of the Grace Christian School Committee since the school’s founding in 1974. He is an attorney who practices law with his wife, Jackie at Byrd and Byrd, LLC. He has been a member of Grace Baptist Church since 1968 and a church Deacon since 1975.
Jamie Miller – Pastoral Representative (firstname.lastname@example.org)Pastor Miller serves as the Pastor of Children and Administration at Grace Baptist Church. He has a Master of Divinity degree from Liberty University, a Master of Arts in Religion degree in Church Ministries from Liberty University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Math Education from the University of Maryland. His professional experience, prior to coming on staff with GBC, includes being a middle school math teacher at Grace Christian School and an algebra and math 8 teacher at Bates Middle School. He has three children currently attending Grace Christian School, in the elementary program.
Bill Wolf – Member-At-Large (email@example.com)Mr. Wolf has been a member of the Grace Christian School committee for many years and is a former GCS parent. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Bob Jones University. His professional experience is as a photographer with the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). He also ministers as a member of the Grace Baptist Church sanctuary choir.
Samuel Yego – Member-At-Large (firstname.lastname@example.org)Mr. Yego has been serving as a professor at Bowie State University, and brings his knowledge and experience in working with schools both public and private. He also ministers as an ABC teacher at Grace Baptist Church.
J Michael Beckman - Business Administrator (Non-Voting) (email@example.com) Mr. Beckman is the Business Administrator for Grace Baptist Church and Grace Christian School. In this capacity, he is the advisor on all financial matters concerning the school. He has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland, an MBA from Regis University and is a Certified Public Accountant. His professional experience includes forty years of Corporate Accounting & Finance Management responsibilities.
Jack Wilson – Principal of Grace Christian School (Non-Voting) (firstname.lastname@example.org)Mr. Wilson is our new principal at GCS. He comes to us with over thirty years' experience in Christian education including 7 years as an administrator of a K-12 private Christian school. He holds a B.A. in Bible and Theology from Washington Bible College and a M.A. in Secondary Education from Bowie State University.
Melody Dillon - Teacher Representative (email@example.com) Mrs. Dillon began teaching at GCS in 2004. She has taught 5th grade for 4 years, 3rd grade for 5 years and currently is teaching 2nd grade. She has a total of 13 years experience and she was awarded the “Teacher of the Month for the City of Bowie” in January 2012.Mrs. Dillon earned her BS degree in Elementary Education from Bowie State University.
